A tribe is, by definition, a social group comprising numerous families, clans, or generations
together together on common lands. The term tribal is most often applied to the indigenous
people of a nation including, but not limited to, the Native Americans, Aztecs, Mayans,
Eskimos, and Maori.
Native tribal peoples display a vast variety of social and ethnic customs; yet they have
all developed some basic common elements: a traditional way of life rooted in stability,
peace, respect for neighbors, and an attempt to live in harmony with the natural
environment.
Tribal tattoos are often influenced by art from native, indigenous tribes. Such tattoos include
Maori patterns, Eskimo totems and Aztec sun clocks. Other types of tribal tattoos rely more
on the use of heavy lines to create an image. These tattoos often consist of black linework
but color tattoos are becoming more frequent in this category.
