Lettering
One of the greatest human achievements has been that of writing. Writing permits the communication of ideas to many through both time and space. Throughout history, messages and information have been shared on a variety of material including, but not limited to, stone, metal, wax, papyrus, paper, and parchment.

Today, the human body has become a canvas that can carry messages to others. Lettering tattoos allow one to send a public declaration to all — proclaiming shared myths, social values, religious identification, tribe affiliations, etc. understood by all. Or, they can house a secret message, decipherable to only a few loved ones.

All in all, lettering tattoos use a wide variety of different alphabets and symbols, from Old English calligraphy to one’s Grandmother’s handwriting to Celtic illuminated letters to Greek symbols. The message is all that matters.
